Sensory Play
Benefits: Promotes learning and development through stimulation of all your child’s senses. Sensory activities also develop creativity and facilitate exploration.
1. Rainbow Rice
Requirements
Tub of rice (we buy 0.5 kg of the cheapest rice)
Food colour (Liquid or powder)
White Vinegar (makes the colour stick)
Pour the rice into a sealable container to Ziploc bag. Pour in food colour and one tablespoon of vinegar. Cover the container and shake to mix. Once the rice is evenly coloured pour it onto a tray or plate and leave out to dry. Repeat the process for each colour.
Note: You can also make a sensory bin with chick peas and follow the same process to colour them
2. Oobleck
Requirements
2 cups of cornstarch
1 cup of water
Food colouring
Small basin to play in
Mix the food colouring in the water first, to ensure that the oobleck is evenly coloured. Stir in the cornstarch in portions. Add in more cornstarch to achieve the required consistency (solid to the touch and runny when held in your hands).
